Responsibilities:
• Attend pre-service training and required professional development sessions.
• Teach High School Music Appreciation class.
• Teach High School Choir and plan/prepare for a Choir Concert at the end of each semester.
• Teach 6th Grade Choir .
• Teach 7th/8th Grades Choir .
• Plan/prepare for a choir concert combined with the high school at the end of each semester.
Job Summary:
• A music/ choir teacher at JI has a multi-faceted job: he or she is responsible for planning the curriculum, independently teaching several sections of courses, and assessing student growth and progress through a variety of standards.
• The teacher is also required to keep regular contact with parents/guardians of students who are not mastering the material. All JI teachers are encouraged to support students individually as much as possible.
• Teachers also create their own lesson plans weekly and post these plans for approval from the department head. There are many resources available to the teacher for the creation of lessons, and collaboration between teachers and departments is encouraged.
• Teachers at JI are data-oriented and aware of student performance in general, especially on standardized tests as they measure student progress according to required state standards. Teachers do this through bi-monthly grade book annotations and meetings with their department head. Teachers are also responsible for creating and administering quarterly assessments (mid-term and final exams) in addition to the unit assessments, to ensure student mastery and to keep the curriculum and standards as consistent as possible from year to year.
• All full-time JI teachers also share several extra responsibilities including traffic duty, monitoring detention, chaperoning of dances, proctoring study halls, and sponsoring clubs including Student Council. These responsibilities will be assigned during pre-service training and maintained throughout the academic year.
• All JI teachers are expected to exhibit an energetic, flexible, positive and solution-based attitude which demonstrates respect at all times for self, students, parents and peers.
Qualifications:
• Candidate must be Highly Qualified per the Colorado Department of Education
o Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
o At least 24 hours in teaching field or successful pass score on the PLACE or Praxis II Exam.
Compensation: Starting salary: $45,000 with BA/BS, $50,000 with MA/MS, excellent benefits pack
(Candidates who are selected to interview will be asked to teach a sample lesson to students, faculty and/or administration.)
